Inn Oon Villa stands on Rachamankha Road in Prasing, deep inside the moated Old City of Chiang Mai. This is the historic heart of the city, a grid of quiet lanes lined with ancient temples, coffee shops, small restaurants and craft stalls, all easy to reach on foot. Wat Chedi Luang, the towering 14th-century temple whose great chedi once ranked among the tallest structures in old Chiang Mai, is only a few hundred metres away and open daily from around 6am to 6pm for a small entrance fee.
The property is superbly placed for the old town's landmarks. Chiang Mai Gate, one of the historic gates in the city walls, and the lively Nong Buak Hard Public Park are both within a short walk, while the City Arts & Cultural Centre and the Three Kings Monument sit a little further north around the old centre. Tha Pae Gate, the most famous of the gates, is about a kilometre away.
Markets and street food are a highlight here. On Sundays, the famous Sunday Walking Street unfurls along Ratchadamnoen Road from Tha Phae Gate, filling the old town with handicraft stalls, live music and northern Thai dishes from late afternoon until late evening, passing right by Wat Chedi Luang. The Saturday Walking Street and Chiang Mai Gate Market are close by too. When it is time to move on, Chiang Mai International Airport is just a 5-minute drive (about 3.5 km), and Chiang Mai Railway Station is roughly a 15-minute ride to the east.
